South African music producer Kagiso Sithole aka Kilogram debuts on Piston Recordings with the fantastic ‘Dirty Screws’. Based out of Johannesburg, his focus is mostly on Deep House with his greatest inspiration coming from some of the best producers in the scene today such as Saison, Dam Swindle and Jeremy Sylvester to name just a few. A relative newcomer, his work has seen releases on labels like House Salad Music, Lisbon Journey’s Records and Jive Afrika Recordings. No doubt there will be much more from Kagiso in the future and we hope to see him back at Piston once again.

‘Dirty Screws’ gest the release underway, opening with an organically flavoured vibe thanks to a live sounding drum section complete with authentic vinyl crackles. Ambient voices add intrigue as an infectious chord stab is joined by bright keys. A deep, subby bassline adds warmth as the groove takes hold and forces you to move. A top-notch cut that will not disappoint. ‘That Old Record Player’ rounds out the release, offering up a more vibrant, upfront groove which is driven by a solid 909 kick and bright hi hat combo. Beautifully tweaked chords play out dancey patterns as cool vocal shots come through. On the low-end, a deep sub level bass is in control and will definitely get the booty shakin’ on the floor no doubt.
